A Family Opens Their Doors
On November 2, 2018, Trina Kinchelow and her sons Jeffery and James opened Taste This Fish on East 25th Street in Martindale-Brightwood. Black, family-owned, and unapologetic — just family, a fryer, and complete confidence in the food.
The Fire That Proved Them
A fire forced them to close — the kind of blow that ends most restaurants. Trina and her sons didn't quit, reopening April 2, 2020, with the same recipes and more determination than ever.
The Fish Speaks for Itself
Catfish, whiting, perch, tilapia, swai — every piece fried golden and seasoned right. Served hot with collard greens, onion rings, and mac and cheese. Customers call it fried to perfection, and they're not wrong.
Fish Friday and the Neighborhood
Regulars have built real rituals here — weekly Fish Friday orders, family pickups, first-timers turned lifelong loyalists. Taste This Fish isn't just carry-out; it's the heartbeat of the east side.
Taking It to the Streets
The Kinchelow family is still growing — a Taste This Fish food truck is coming soon, rolling that same hot, crispy fish to more corners of Indianapolis.
